BOONE COUNTY, Iowa — The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is asking for information after deputies found a dead dog inside a wooden crate that had been dumped near a dead-end road.
On Tuesday, the sheriff’s office posted the photos below on Facebook. In the post, the sheriff’s office said the animal crate pictured was found “dumped” in the 1600 block of 315th Street, near the Des Moines River.

The sheriff’s office said Wednesday that when deputies looked inside the crate, they found a dead Shepherd-type dog. No identifying information or a microchip was found. The dog was taken to the Boone Area Humane Society.
At this time, the sheriff’s office said there’s no information explaining whether the dog was subjected to any neglect or abuse that may have contributed to its death, or if it died of natural causes. However, due to the “dog being discarded in an inappropriate manner along with its crate,” the sheriff’s office is seeking information to hopefully identify the dog and determine whether any neglect occurred…
