DES MOINES, Iowa — Severe storms and possible tornadoes Friday evening, April 17, 2026, caused a scattershot pattern of rural power outages across Iowa, with the heaviest impacts in several electric cooperative service areas.
Crews worked to restore electricity to 197 member-consumers in Jones County, 181 in Clayton County and 142 in Wayne County. Significant pockets of outages continued in Keokuk County with 98 affected, Linn County with 84, Delaware County with 42 and Iowa County with 39, according to cooperative reports.
Smaller storm-related outages were also reported in Allamakee, Appanoose, Black Hawk, Buchanan, Butler, Davis, Dubuque, Fayette, Floyd, Jackson, Johnson, Louisa, Marshall, Muscatine, Tama, Wapello, Washington and Winnebago counties…
