Remains of unclaimed Iowans to be laid to rest

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI) – This weekend, the cremated remains of 170 unclaimed Iowans will be laid to rest in Des Moines, thanks to a nonprofit called The Final Salute.

The Iowans in The Final Salute’s possession come from all walks of life, but the group’s message is simple — every life matters and deserves to be remembered.

The oldest urn to be buried in this collection belongs to a woman named Abbie. She died in 1919, just one year before women’s voting rights were ratified in the United States…
