DES MOINES, Iowa – Just two years ago, Sterling’s Tyus Wilson took the national lead in the high jump at the Drake Relays. Wilson, who went on to place seventh in the world just a few months later in Tokyo, was a lone shining star for the state of Kansas that spring.
Two years later, with the addition of Kansas State to the Drake lineup, Kansas athletes were all over the competition at the 116th Drake Relays held throughout the week, but culminating with two big days of events on Friday and Saturday. Second-year coach Travis Geopfert, with the help of several former Kansas high school stars, is turning the Wildcats into a formidable track and field power on the national stage.
