DES MOINES, Iowa — Last week, the Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority, also known as DART, released its new bus routes. Now, Des Moines Public Schools is making adjustments to ensure students have a way to get to school next year.
Currently, Des Moines Public Schools and DART have a partnership where students are assigned a yellow bus or a DART bus to get them to school if they qualify. That level of service is shown on student IDs.
But starting June 14th, DART will go from 27 main bus routes to 10, meaning some students will no longer have a DART bus going by their house.

DMPS officials say students will still have a way to get to school. “We will supplement with yellow bus service,” assures Samantha Sonnichsen, DMPS Director of Transportation. “Just because we’re losing the DART bus service doesn’t mean the children are going to lose their transportation. We do have students that purchase half-price DART passes to use for their own transportation, so they’re going to have to go to the DART website to see which bus is going to serve them best now.”…
