Polk City residents can return home after evacuation for gas line rupture

POLK CITY, Iowa — The Polk City Police Department says a gas line that was struck Friday morning, prompting a call for evacuation, has now been repaired.

The PCPD posted to social media Friday at 9:24 a.m. that a gas line was struck on Lyndale Drive and Oaklyn Drive. That’s a few blocks off of W. Broadway Street. Residents of 1100 -1216 Broadway Street, 100-1218 Westside Drive, and 1309 Westside Drive on Sunset Street were asked to evacuate because of the issue.

At 11:04 a.m., PCPD posted an update, saying the gas line had been repaired by MidAmerican Energy and it was safe for residents to return to their homes.

West Elementary School was not impacted by the issue, according to the PCPD…
