DES MOINES, Iowa — Central Iowa Water Works officials said earlier this week that a lawn watering ban could again become necessary this summer due to high nitrate levels in the Des Moines and Raccoon rivers.
The utility has been operating its nitrate filtration facility since January and hopes to eventually double the plant’s capacity. However, officials said the expansion could still be about three years away.
