JOHNSTON, Iowa — A Johnston mom charged with child endangerment earlier this year is now facing additional charges, including kidnapping.
Jeanne Nyanome, 29, was booked into the Polk County Jail on Thursday on charges of third-degree kidnapping and child endangerment – bodily injury.
According to a criminal complaint for the new charges, sometime between June and August 2025, Nyanome locked one of her children in her bedroom, binding the child’s arms and legs and putting a cloth in the victim’s mouth. The complaint also accuses Nyanome of hitting the victim with a curtain rod, causing injuries to the child’s thighs, legs, and back.
‘Suspicious death’ reported in Plymouth County
Court records show that Nyanome was charged in connection with another child endangerment case earlier this year. A criminal complaint in that case claims that in late February 2026, Nyanome hit her child with a wooden spoon, resulting in multiple injuries to her shoulder, hip, and back. The complaint also notes that the child had a black eye and popped blood vessels in her left eye.
In the February case, Nyanome was charged with two counts of child endangerment and two counts of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness.
