It’s been nearly 40 years since Triumph last performed in the metro area, back on Nov. 29, 1986 at Cobo Arena.
But that absence has indeed made the Canadian band’s fans’ hearts grow fonder, which is why the Michigan Lottery Amphitheatre was packed and on Saturday night, May 30, to feel the particular “Magic Power” of the group’s formidable pile of favorites. Triumph’s 2026 lineup is key to that for its Rock & Roll Machine to be Reloaded tour, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the band’s first album. While it toured back in the day with an auxiliary guitarist/keyboardist (Rick Santers), this year it’s a quintet; co-founding guitarist Rik Emmett and drummer Gil Moore have been joined by a second drummer (Brent Fitz from Slash’s Conspirators) doubling on keyboards, while fellow Conspirator Todd Kerns is filling in on bass for Mike Levine, who’s sitting the tour out for health reasons…
