What Led to the Taylor Police Shooting at Sheetz Station

An Ohio man who was shot by Taylor police after ramming a stolen U-Haul truck into a patrol car and allegedly pointing a gun at officers has been formally charged and appeared in court from his hospital bed Thursday.

Cizquindrie T.L. Smith, 38, of Canton, Ohio, was arraigned in 23rd District Court in Taylor via video link as he continued to receive treatment for his injuries. Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy authorized seven felony charges against him. Taylor police publicly called the bond set by the court disappointing.

What Smith is charged with

Smith faces one count of carrying a concealed weapon, one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, one count of third-degree fleeing and eluding police, one count of felonious assault, one count of resisting and obstructing a police officer, and two counts of using a firearm during the commission of a felony.

If convicted on all counts, he could face up to five years on the concealed weapon charge, five years for being a felon in possession of a firearm, five years for fleeing and eluding, four years for felonious assault, two years for resisting police and two years for each firearm count, putting the combined maximum exposure at more than two decades in prison…
