Under sunny skies and pleasant temperatures, thousands of union members marched Monday morning in the annual Detroit Labor Day Parade in Corktown, with many carrying picket signs showing solidarity with Canadian workers.
One sign said, “We Stand With Our Neighbour,” using the Canadian spelling of neighbor, and included a Maple Leaf. The other read, “Solidarity,” and included an illustration of a handshake and an American and Canadian flag.
Electrician Kevin Mackey, an executive board member of IBEW Local 58, said they printed more than 2,000 signs, wanting to show solidarity with Canadian workers and to send a message that people on both sides of the border are unhappy with President Trump’s tariffs and his disparaging remarks about Canada…
