Eastpointe ZBA clears way for beauty supply store at former Rite Aid

EASTPOINTE — A vacant former Rite Aid on Gratiot Avenue could soon see new life as a beauty supply store after the Eastpointe Zoning Board of Appeals granted a variance Sept. 17 allowing the nonconforming building to be occupied.

The ZBA voted to grant a variance for the building at 22600 Gratiot Ave., where 313 Beauty Supply hopes to open its third Michigan location.

The decision came after a discussion over a city ordinance governing nonconforming buildings and uses. The former pharmacy has been vacant since Rite Aid closed in 2024, and its business license was terminated Sept. 30 of that year. City officials determined that the building’s nonconforming status had expired after more than 12 months of vacancy…
