KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A man who was wanted in Michigan on charges of armed robbery and assault was arrested after he was found in Knox County Thursday by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office.
According to KCSO, a Narcotics Unit detective working alongside the U.S. Marshals Service’s Smoky Mountain Fugitive Task Force received information from law enforcement in Ypsilanti and Washtenaw County, Michigan, that Donnell Fonville III, 19, of Detroit, was believed to be in the Knox County area. KCSO said he was wanted in Michigan on charges of armed robbery and assault with intent to murder.

The U.S. Marshals Service explained that Fonville was wanted on three counts ofattempted murder stemming from an August 2024 incident where he allegedly fired into a crowded smoke and vape shop in Washtwnaw County, Michigan that left one person paralyzed. He was also wanted on charged related to a separate armed robbery in Ypsilanti City, Michigan. The Marshals Service also described Fonville as a known violent offender and drug trafficker known to travel back and forth between the Detroit area and Knoxville.
Around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, the detective found the vehicle Fonville was associated with in the 900 block of East Hill Avenue, and Fonville was later seen leaving a home and evading law enforcement on foot, the sheriff’s office said…
