BERKLEY — A 40-year-old Detroit man who crashed a vehicle while driving in Berkley last month has been charged in the death of a passenger in the vehicle.
Marquis D. Jackson was arraigned Oct. 2 in the 44th District Court on a charge of operating while intoxicated causing death. According to police, the crash killed 51-year-old Eugene Garnett, of Warren.
The incident took place at approximately 10:14 p.m. Sept. 7 near Edgewood Avenue and Henley Street. Police at the scene found that a 2021 Chevrolet Blazer had struck a tree and caught fire.
Police said two people were found inside the vehicle, Jackson and Garnett. According to the Berkley Department of Public Safety, the fire was located in the passenger compartment where Garnett was located. He was later pronounced dead at a hospital…
