Whitmer Sending Refund Checks to Michigan

Soon a number of households in Michigan will be getting a tax refund check from Gretchen Whitmer and the state of Michigan.

Starting Feb. 13, at least 700,000 Michigan families receive tax rebate checks that will average $550 dollars.

This comes from a number of tax cuts that Gov. Whitmer signed into law, totaling over $1 billion dollars, last year.

It works through the Working Families Tax Credit that helps lower income workers and this new tax cuts will increase the state credit from 6% to 30% of the federal credit.

Additionally, it will go back to 2022. This means that people may receive a check from their 2022 tax return and get the full 30% tax credit when they file this year.

Whitmer commented on how this would help people in a state from her office.

“This directly benefits half the children in Michigan, and moms and dads can use this extra money at tax time to pay the bills, put food on the table, and buy school supplies,” said Whitmer.

“Across the United States, inflation is decreasing and take-home pay is increasing, proving that our work in Michigan and President Biden’s efforts in Washington are moving us in the right direction. We still have more work to do, and today’s announcement will help get you some relief sooner than expected. Let’s keep rolling up our sleeves, lowering costs, and growing our economy.”
