Famous Bay Area rockers Journey, who’ll perform at Levi’s Stadium Sunday, also namecheck the city of Detroit in one of their most beloved classic hits
A beloved classic rock band will be performing at Levi’s Stadium for the NFC Championship game Sunday — and the group couldn’t be more uniquely suited for the matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and the Detroit Lions.
Journey are set to rock the halftime stage during the game: Along with the original lineup being famous for its Bay Area roots, the band also name-checks the city of Detroit in one of its most popular hits, 1981’s anthemic “Don’t Stop Believin’.”
Of course, the lyrics to that song — “Just a city boy/ Born and raised in South Detroit” — actually have been poked fun at by those in the know for decades due to their inaccuracy (there is no such official region as “South Detroit”).
That puts the band “in a bit of a tight spot” as to whether they will dare play it at a stadium filled with Motor City fans, jokes the Detroit News . At any rate, it should prove to be a fun singalong for both camps should they take their chances on the tune.
