Nancy Kerrigan Told Officials She Feared for Her Life in 1994 Attack. But She Never Mentioned Tonya Harding (Exclusive)

After she was attacked, Nancy Kerrigan was interviewed by authorities about her injuries

Nancy Kerrigan was reeling for weeks after she was clubbed in the knee by an assailant following practice at a Detroit rink two days before the U.S. Figure Skating Championships on Jan. 6, 1994.

“It was one of the most terrifying moments of my life,” Kerrigan later said in a recorded interview with the FBI. “I didn’t know if he was going to hit me again. I was afraid for my life.”

When an investigation into the assault turned its focus on a skating rival, scandal rocked the sports world, dominating airwaves around the globe as a true-life soap opera starring two American athletes unfolded.

But in various interviews with officials, Kerrigan never mentioned Tonya Harding by name.
