The final goodbye for musician Missy Kinyon, of Grosse Pointe Park, who died in November at age 49, will include a free nine-hour concert this week involving musicians from throughout metro Detroit.
“Just like Missy wanted, we’ll have live music, a pie-eating contest, and mariachi band,” her husband, John Roberts-Kinyon, told the Detroit Free Press.
A celebration of life will be held from 2-11:59 p.m. Saturday at the Turnaround Bar, 14619 Kercheval Ave., in Detroit, with food provided by Raquel’s Cocina of Detroit from 3:30-7 p.m.
While there is no charge for the event, organizers ask that people who want to attend RSVP for planning purposes and consider making a donation in support of her husband and daughters, Charlotte and Lucy.
Missy Kinyon, a philanthropist who introduced thousands of Detroiters and global visitors to kayaking on the Detroit River, was remembered for building friendships among visionaries in metro Detroit that changed how many in the city saw what was possible. Known for her spirit and sense of adventure, friends and family said , she co-owned Detroit Outpost outfitters at Grayhaven State Harbor.
