Section of I-75 shut down after woman struck when she exited her vehicle following earlier crash

DETROIT (WWJ) – The Michigan State Police are reminding drivers to remain in their vehicles if they are involved in a crash.

The Detroit Police responded to a call of a single vehicle crash on southbound I-75 and 7 Mile Road  at 12:50 a.m. Monday, according to a Tweet from the Michigan State Police Second District.

DPS informed the Michigan State Police that a woman “was lying in the middle of the roadway with a crashed vehicle on the right shoulder” of I-75, prompting the freeway to be closed at 7 Mile.

The investigation found that a 30-year-old woman from Detroit was involved in a crash. She was struck by another vehicle after she exited her vehicle and walked onto the freeway following the initial crash.

“We continue to remind drivers to not get out of their cars after a crash,” F/Lt Mike Shaw said. “Stay in your car and if you can move your car out of the travel lanes. Keep your seatbelt fastened and call 911 for assistance. This is the safest place to be after a crash.”

The woman was transported to a local hospital where she is listed in critical condition.
