SHELBY TOWNSHIP (WWJ) – Police are working on piecing together what led to a pedestrian crash that killed left an elderly woman in Macomb County on Wednesday evening.
The Shelby Township Police Department confirmed with WWJ that a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle along 25 Mile Road, east of Van Dyke in front of Eisenhower High School, at around 8 p.m. on Jan. 31.
The department released limited details due to their ongoing investigation.
Initial reports state police arrived at the scene and discovered an elderly woman in all dark clothing lying in the roadway with serious injuries. Police later confirmed the victim was an elderly female.
She was reportedly rushed to Troy Beaumont. The department said she died of her injuries.
Details about the driver who allegedly struck the pedestrian remains unclear, but police said in a update just before 8 a.m. on Thursday that the driver stopped at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.
The department confirmed the crash was not alcohol-related.
