‘No threats detected,’ police say, after shell casing found at Dearborn High School prompts lockdown Tuesday

DEARBORN (WWJ) — Dearborn High School was lockdown Tuesday morning, as police searched the building to rule out any threat to students and staff.

WWJ’s Luke Sloan reported Dearborn Police called this a “soft lockdown,” saying it went into effect after a “suspicious item” was discovered.

Later, police disclosed that the item was a shell casing, and that it was found in the building at around 8:30 a.m.

No one was allowed to enter or leave as Dearborn Police officers alongside firearm detection K9s from the Taylor Police Department, West Bloomfield Police Department, Michigan State Police, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), conducted a “thorough sweep” of the school, police said.

The lockdown has since been lifted, the Dearborn PD said, adding that “no threats were detected to school and surrounding community.”

It’s unclear where the casing came from, as the investigation continues.
