Man accused of fatally beating roommate over Taco Bell

In Roseville, Michigan, authorities have filed charges against a 54-year-old man suspected of fatally assaulting his 72-year-old roommate during a confrontation at a boarding house earlier this week.

According to a statement released by the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, Mark Newsome and his elderly roommate, Dale Mitchell, became embroiled in an argument on Wednesday, Jan. 31, which escalated into a physical altercation. Reports from WJBK-TV indicate that the disagreement centered around food from Taco Bell.

During the altercation, Newsome allegedly struck Mitchell multiple times in the head, resulting in fatal injuries to the victim.

The prosecutor’s office has formally charged Newsome with second-degree murder, a serious felony offense. Following his arraignment on Feb. 1, Newsome was remanded to custody without bond. He is set to appear in court for a probable cause hearing on Feb. 14.

Currently, Newsome is being held at the Macomb County Jail.
