‘We miss him a lot; it’s not easy for us.’ Family of murdered Detroit father of 4 daughters pleads for information, justice

DETROIT (WWJ) — Coming up on the two years since the murder of a beloved son, brother and father, his family is reaching out for help to find justice.

Crime Stoppers of Michigan is offering a cash reward of up to $2,500 for information that leads to the arrest of the person who killed Joe Chavies, IV.

Chavies was only 24 years old when he was fatally shot on Wednesday, April 6, 2022, by an unknown suspect near the intersection of Carmel St. and Troy Pl. on Detroit’s west side.

Speaking at a news conference alongside his sisters, Chavies’ mother, Angelique said her son is grieved daily by the four beautiful daughters he left behind.

She said he worked for FedEx, enjoyed playing basketball and video games, and was just a very much a joy to be around.

“His family was always his first priority; not even just his kids,” Angelique said. “His sisters, his grandparents… he just made sure everybody was straight. He was a hard worker, he was.”
