(WWJ) Prosecutors are making clear that these threats are no joke, charging a 15-year-old boy with a 20-year felony in connection with a bomb scare at a high school in Macomb County.
According to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office, the juvenile defendant is accused of writing a bomb threat note that was found by a teacher at Center Line High School in Center Line on Thursday.
The school was evacuated and searched, but no bomb was found, officials said.
The teen was arrested and charged with False Report of a Threat of Terrorism.
At the teen’s arraignment on Friday, Macomb County Chief Referee Linda Harrison denied bond based on the seriousness of the offense, and the teen was remanded into custody at the Juvenile Justice Center.
“The gravity of this offense and its impact on campus security is serious. We will prosecute this reckless behavior to hold the juvenile accountable for his actions,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Pete Lucido, in a statement.
The teen’s next court date is a pre-trial hearing set for Feb. 21, before Macomb County Referee Michael Gibbs.
