Eastpointe man found guilty of murdering neighbors, fleeing to Texas

(WWJ) — An Eastpointe man with prior convictions for second-degree murder has been found guilty of killing his neighbors more than two years ago.

A Macomb County jury on Friday found Dennis Evans, 62, guilty of multiple charges, including two counts of first-degree premeditated murder. The trial lasted three days.

Evans shot his neighbors, 37-year-old Dorian Mitchell, and 50-year-old Christie Davis, outside their apartment complex on Jan. 27, 2022. Authorities found a mixture containing heroin and fentanyl when searching his apartment

After the shooting in the area of 10 Mile and Gratiot, Evans fled the state. After a four-day manhunt he was arrested in the San Antonio, Texas area.

The Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office says Evans has two previous convictions for second-degree murder, though no details were disclosed.

In addition to the murder charges, Evans was also found guilty of three counts of felony firearm – second offense, felon in possession of a firearm and delivery/manufacture of a controlled substance (40-449 grams). If convicted, he could face life in prison without parole.
