Adrian murder case to stay in Lenawee County Circuit Court

ADRIAN — A murder case against a man accused of taking part in a shooting that killed another man in February 2023 in Adrian will proceed in Lenawee County Circuit Court.

Circuit Judge Michael R. Olsaver on Wednesday denied a motion to quash the bindover from Lenawee County District Court of open murder and firearms charges against Kenyatto Tiwaine Sylvertooth, 48, of Detroit. Sylvertooth and Gage Michael Winsett, 18, of Adrian are each charged in the death of 27-year-old Jonathan Marquise Simmons of Detroit. Simmons was shot in an exchange of gunfire between two vehicles on the afternoon of Feb. 13, 2023, near the intersection of South Tecumseh and Frank streets.

A trial with both defendants is scheduled to begin May 14 before Olsaver. Final pretrial hearings for both are scheduled for Wednesday, April 24. Sylvertooth’s attorney, Michael Dagher-Margosian of the Lenawee County Public Defender’s Office, has filed a motion to separate the cases. On Wednesday, he deferred resolving that issue until April 24.
