Detroit police have identified suspect in case of missing 13-year-old Na’Ziyah Harris, according to report

DETROIT (WWJ) — There’s new information today in the case of missing 13-year-old Na’Ziyah Harris.

According to the Detroit News , a Detroit Police investigation led them to a suspect: a 41-year-old Wayne County Jail inmate.

The suspect, whose name is being withheld at this time, is accused of sexually abusing a 7-year-old girl. He was charged in April with two counts of criminal sexual abuse of a person under 13, according to the newspaper, which cited unnamed police sources.

This comes weeks after police searched sites in Clinton Township and Ann Arbor, as well as the Rouge River for the teen. According to the report , detectives were led to the search locations after pinging the cell-phone of the inmate.

Na’Ziyah disappeared January 9 after getting off a school bus near Cornwell Street and Three Mile Drive on Detroit’s east side.

While the Detroit Police Department has not released any new information, at the time of the river search Chief James White made clear that investigators believed it was likely the teen would be found dead. “Unfortunately, as time goes on, it does start to look more like a recovery effort,” White said , adding: “We’re prayerful that that’s not the case.”
