Disgruntled Wendy’s customer is arrested after yelling, spitting at employees at drive-thru in Troy: police

TROY (WWJ) — A man from Sumpter, South Carolina, is facing a misdemeanor assault charge in Oakland County after an incident at a fast food restaurant last month.

At around 5:15 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, Troy Police officers responded to the Wendy’s restaurant on Rochester Rd. near E. Wattles, on a report of customer trouble.

Wendy’s employees told police that a customer who was upset that the credit card machine wasn’t working approached the drive-thru on foot, began yelling at employees, and then spit at an employee through the window.

The employee closed the window and the man tried to open it and spit again, the employees said, at which point police arrived on the scene.

The suspect, a 37-year-old man, told officers that he didn’t think anything happened that warranted a police response. The man admitted to spitting, police said, but said he spit at the window — not at an employee.

The man was arrested and was taken to the Troy Police lock-up facility where he was issued a citation for Assault and Battery. If convicted, he faces up to 93 days in jail, a fine of up to $500, or both.
