Detroit man arraigned on first degree murder in fatal double shooting over $80 loss in dice game

PONTIAC (WWJ) A Detroit man angry about losing $80 in a dice game was arraigned on first degree murder charges in the deadly shooting of two men in a Pontiac apartment.

Davonte Franklin, 32, was arraigned on Saturday on two counts of first degree murder, felon in possession of a firearm, and three counts of using a firearm in commission of a felony.

He’s charged with killing Sidney Ward III, 20 of Highland Park, and Tyrone Davis Glen Jr., 24 of Pontiac.

The Oakland County Sheriff said the murders occurred on Tuesday (10/8) in an apartment on North Sanford near Fiddis— in the area of Martin Luther King Boulevard and I-59. Deputies responded to a 911 call of shots fired. Ward was pronounced dead at the scene and Glen was rushed to the hospital, where he died a short time later.

Evidence revealed Franklin used a potato in a “futile attempt” to silence the gunshots, the sheriff’s office said.

Witnesses later told investigators they still heard the gunshots.

“I have been in this a long time, but it is still shocking to see the lack of value some people place on a human life,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said. “I am proud of our substation, all our detectives and our partners for the effort that brought this cold-blooded killer into custody within 12 hours.”
