SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) — Keeping a close eye on the radar, forecasters say Southeast Michigan could see enough snow to make for slippery travel, Thursday night and early Friday.
The National Weather Service said Metro Detroit is looking at periods of light snow starting Thursday afternoon and into the evening, with areas north of I-69 more likely to see the snow earlier on.
NWS said the snow is expected to become more widespread overnight Thursday into Friday, with up to three inches of accumulation by Friday evening. Locally higher amounts are possible, especially in the Thumb.
In the Detroit area, AccuWeather Meteorologist Joe said we probably won’t see much snow until Thursday night.
“Most of it’s going to be after dark. There might be a couple of flurries now and then today, no big deal,” he told WWJ’s Jackie Paige.
Lundberg said the snow is likely to impact travel conditions, including during the Friday AM rush hour.
“It’s gonna head across Chicagoland early tonight, and as it does, that’s when the snow spreads into our area,” Lundberg said. “And it’ll be a kind of fitful snow at times. It’ll come down steadily, other times very light, almost stop, and it’ll do it again. And that’ll continue into the morning commune tomorrow.”
