There’s a glimpse of some hope for Detroit Lions fans amid the injuries that have been popping up recently.
Running back David Montgomery has consulted with several experts regarding his knee injury this week. He has opted to avoid surgery and instead rehab in hopes of a potential return during the playoffs, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
It was initially thought that Montgomery would need to undergo surgery on his MCL, an injury he sustained in the Lions’ loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday.

It comes after star interior defensive lineman Alim McNeill suffered a torn ACL on Sunday, ending his season. Cornerbacks Carlon Davis III and Khalil Dorsey also suffered serious injuries against the Bills, with Dorsey’s season also being done for the year due to an ankle injury.
Like Montgomery, Davis could still return from a jaw injury if the Lions make a deep playoff run.
It’s been the theme for an otherwise tremendous season for Detroit, as they currently have over 20 players on the injured reserve heading into Week 16’s matchup against the Chicago Bears.
