Residents on Detroit’s west side woke up to a surprise flood when aging water pipes burst beneath their driveways, sending water spewing onto the streets and disrupting daily life. What began as a minor leak quickly escalated into a widespread problem, affecting multiple homes along Greenview Avenue. City officials reported that by Monday afternoon, emergency teams had rescued 54 adults, 22 children, and 12 pets.
