Former Paraprofessional In Michigan Pleads Guilty To Striking Autistic Child With Shoe

Probation and Anger Management Ordered for Former Paraprofessional

A former paraprofessional at Forest Park Elementary in Eastpointe has pled guilty to assault and battery after striking a 6-year-old autistic child with a shoe. The incident, which occurred on October 18, 2024, led to her termination and a commitment from the Macomb County Prosecutor’s office to protect all students.

On Tuesday, July 8, 2025, Kimberly Horen, 55, of Eastpointe, entered a guilty plea to Assault and Battery, a 93-day misdemeanor, before Judge Kathleen G. Galen in Eastpointe’s 38th District Court.

The charges stemmed from an investigation initiated after a parent reported that their autistic child was assaulted by a staff member. Eastpointe Schools Administration conducted an internal review, which revealed Horen had removed the child’s shoe and used it to strike the child in the head…
