A 6-year-old boy with autism appears to have drowned after wandering away from a family reunion on Belle Isle during the weekend, police say.
Police were called about 7:20 p.m. Saturday, July 26, to the area of Central Avenue and Muse Road on Belle Isle, according to a Michigan State Police post on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter. A family reunion was taking place around Belle Isle Shelter’s No. 2.
It’s just on the other side of the road from a river that feeds into the isle’s Lake Tacoma on the west side, closer to downtown Detroit. There’s a bridge near the shelter for pedestrians to cross the river on their way toward the Belle Isle Casino building…
