Detroit’s own Jessica Care Moore, a celebrated poet and performer, has been honored as one of the 2025 Poet Laureate Fellows by the Academy of American Poets. Appearing on “Live In The D,” Moore expressed her excitement about this prestigious recognition. “It’s really beautiful that I’m a Detroit poet laureate first. It gets to shine some more light on our beautiful city.”
Moore’s passion for poetry is not only about personal achievement but also about community impact. She plans to utilize the fellowship funds to launch literacy and mural arts programs in Detroit. “Literature and poetry are downplayed in the city, and I want to bring it into public spaces,” she said. Her initiative aims to engage the community through creative expressions like haiku, showcasing the city’s talents on public transport and school projects.
Jessica Care Moore continues to inspire as she uses her platform to amplify voices and celebrate Detroit’s rich cultural tapestry. “I dreamt myself into existence. I wrote it into existence.”…
