Prosecutors Say Detroit Driver Hit 80 MPH Before Deadly Crash That Killed Two Kids

Detroit, Michigan – A Detroit man has been charged in connection with a deadly car crash that killed two children and seriously injured another over the weekend.

According to the Detroit Police Department, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office charged Amir Khalid after investigators alleged he was driving more than 80 miles per hour on Gratiot Avenue when he struck another vehicle Saturday, August 23. The crash occurred as the victims’ vehicle attempted to turn east onto August Street.

Inside the struck vehicle were a woman and three children: an 8-year-old girl and two 16-year-old girls. Police said two of the children were fatally injured in the crash while the other 16-year-old girl suffered serious injuries…
