LONDON, KY (Tue. Sept. 2nd, 2025) — Laurel County Sheriff John Root is reporting that: Laurel Sheriff’s Lieut. Brett Reeves along with Detective Gary Jordan and shift Sgt. Travis Napier arrested two individuals on Friday, August 29, 2025 at approximately 3:55 PM.
The arrests occurred off Highway 26 approximately 3 miles South of Corbin while Laurel County Sheriff’s deputies were conducting an investigation into several pieces of heavy equipment determined to be stolen from out-of-state and brought to the Laurel County area to be sold to a local business. Allegedly, on August 13th, 2025 a 2018 D5 K caterpillar dozer was delivered to a business valued at $65,000. That piece of equipment was determined to be stolen out of Fairfax, Virginia and was investigated by police there. They were able to ping the vehicle while attempting to locate it, and located it in London Kentucky, and contacted the Laurel County Sheriff’s office to assist on the investigation here. The seller provided fake identification when selling it in Laurel County. On August 29th, 2025 Laurel County deputies set up an undercover operation making contact with the suspect to provide two more pieces of heavy equipment. The suspect along with an accomplice brought 2 pieces of heavy equipment – a 259 skid steer valued at $47,000 and a 308 excavator valued at $73,000 to the South Laurel/Corbin area and apparently became confused on the delivery location.
Laurel County deputies observed the vehicle being driven toward Woodbine on Highway 26 South of Corbin conducting a traffic stop and an investigation on the two pieces of heavy equipment neither of which were entered stolen by their serial numbers. However, Laurel County deputies contacted Boyd Caterpillar company of Corbin who assisted deputies on their investigation contacting companies out-of-state and were able to determine that both pieces of equipment had been stolen from Maryland. Two individuals were accompanying the stolen equipment and were identified as: Dushon Sheperd age 34 of Southfield, Michigan and Bria Parks age 23 of Washington, D.C. both charged on a complaint warrant of arrest charging two counts of receiving stolen property $10,000 or more and both were lodged in the Laurel County correctional center.
