DETROIT — As fans prepare to fill Ford Field for playoff games, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel is urging ticket buyers to take precautions against online scams.
In a Sept. 4 news release, Nessel encouraged anyone purchasing tickets online to review the Department of Attorney General’s Online Ticket Purchasing consumer alert to better understand the risks and how to avoid falling victim to fraud.
Scammers have been known to target both buyers and sellers through payment app scams and fake check scams. Peer-to-peer payment apps such as Apple Pay, Cash App, Google Pay, PayPal, Venmo, and Zelle can be used by fraudsters to impersonate banks, claim to be from fraud departments, or send spoofed emails in attempts to access personal and financial information.
