STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. (FOX 2) A Detroit man who hit and killed a woman while fleeing Sterling Heights police in a stolen vehicle when he was 17 will spend up to 50 years in prison, a judge ruled Thursday.

Angelo Rickey Smith, 21, was sentenced to 15-50 years for the 2021 crash. According to his lawyer, the sentencing agreement was 15-25 years.

Smith’s attorney noted that his client’s age at the time of the deadly crash needed to be taken into consideration. Judge Michael Servitto acknowledged the suspect’s age, but noted that he made a choice to flee after stealing a Jeep from a car dealership.
