Authorities in Oakland County are digging into what appears to be a dark case of animal cruelty, after the body of a Bullmastiff was discovered in a grease pit behind a Madison Heights restaurant, as initially reported by WWJ Newsradio. Workers handling the disposal of grease in the pit were met with a grisly sight when they found the animal, swaddled in a blanket, last Friday.
The dog, weighing over 100 pounds, presented a removal challenge at the 24000 block of John R Road venue, leading to the call out of the Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team. Wrapped in a grease-soaked blanket, winches were ultimately employed in retrieving the animal’s remains. As per details from a follow-up email by Steve Huber, the public information officer with OCSO, obtained by C&G News, “The Sheriff’s Search and Rescue Team was asked to assist because they had the skills and equipment needed to remove the carcass from the grease pit.”
Following the removal, Oakland County Animal Control took the body for further examination to uncover the circumstances leading to the dog’s death and subsequent disposal.
