The Wyandotte Police Department just sent out a pretty clear message to anyone thinking about running from the cops: don’t.
In a video shared on social media this week, the department showed off its brand-new Grappler device, a high-tech tool that attaches to the front bumper of a patrol car and can safely end high-speed chases.
Basically, it’s a tire net launcher that grabs the back wheel of a fleeing vehicle and brings it to a controlled stop. That means no spike strips, no PIT maneuvers, and they say a lot less danger for everyone else on the road.
Invented by Arizona resident Leonard Stock, the Grappler is designed to reduce the risks that come with vehicle pursuits, protecting not only officers but also the suspects and bystanders who can easily become collateral damage when things go wrong.
