Detroit Continues to See Declining Violent Crime Rates

DETROIT, Oct. 7, 2025 ~ Detroit officials are touting continued declines in violent crimes, seeing fewer homicides so far this year than in 2024.

Looking at the time range from Jan. 1 to Sept. 30, homicides fell from 155 in 2024, to 132 in 2025, with carjackings and non-fatal shootings also falling significantly in the same time frame. “Working with our local, our state, our federal partners, ATF, FBI, and our community groups, that’s when the real magic starts to happen,” Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison told WJR. “Even working with the courts and the prosecutors, I work with anybody.
