Mother-son duo accused of ‘strangling teen girlfriend and dumping her body in a bin’

A mother is being accused of repeatedly lying to law enforcement while trying to cover up the alleged murder of her son’s teenage girlfriend in Michigan.

After finding the body of London Thomas, 17, in a plastic trash can contained within a parked SUV in Southfield on April 26, 2025, in the area of Millard Street near Berg Road. She was reported missing three weeks earlier, and police began the search several days after initial reports of her disappearance.

Charla Pendergrass, the girl’s former boyfriend, and his mother, Jalen Pendergrass, were arrested earlier this week and are facing one count each of second-degree murder and tampering with evidence in the April slaying.

Authorities say Thomas was strangled to death, and then her body was stuffed inside a plastic bin…
