On Detroit’s west side, near Schoolcraft and Outer Drive, Elizabeth Sammut tends to 21 dogs at her makeshift rescue site. She gives these cast-off pets a second shot at life with food, shelter, and medical attention.
“I have 15 on this block, and then we have six on another block,” Sammut said, per FOX 2 Detroit. The spot has turned into a place where owners desert their pets.
Each week brings more stranded animals. “They get out of their cars, put the dog on a leash, act like they’re walking the dog, let go of the leash, jump in their car, and they pull off,” Sammut said…
