Detroit ranked among least safe U.S. cities, report says

LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — Detroit has been ranked the 4th least safe city in the U.S., according to a WalletHub report.

WalletHub reviewed 182 cities, including the 150 most populous U.S. cities, and at least two of the most populated in each state. It compared the cities across three key categories, including home & community safety, natural-disaster risk, and financial safety.

It then evaluated those catagories using 41 metrics. Each metric was graded on a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the highest level of safety. These grades were used to determine each city’s weighted average across all metrics to calculate its overall score.

Detroit was ranked 179th out of 182nd, making it one of the least safe cities in the nation. It was rabked 177 for home & community safety, 100 for natural-disaster risk, and 181 for financial safety…
