It’s been a pretty curious time since President Donald Trump announced he would begin deploying the National Guard into cities around the country to help local law enforcement curb crime in cities he has deemed are in the midst of a “crime crisis”.President Trump’s decision has been met with mixed reactions.

Vice President JD Vance has even suggested that if Governor Whitmer requested it, he’d be happy to send in the National Guard to the city of Detroit, though Gov. Whitmer has stated she will not be taking up the offer. But in doing some personal research, I wanted to know the last time the National Guard was deployed to the city.
During my research, I came across an interesting overlap between the pop-rock band The Monkees and the National Guard. The year 1967 was the last time the National Guard was deployed in the city of Detroit during the Uprising of 1967, a five-day riot brought on by years of racial tension within the city. This took place from July 23rd to July 28th
As fires burned and local law enforcement was unable to quell the riots, Governor George Romney deployed the National Guard , and President Lyndon B. Johnson sent in U.S. Army paratroopers to assist.
While the government and city were dealing with the riots, the Monkees’ management team was having a conflict of its own. The band was set to perform at the Olympia Stadium on July 29th, and considering the unrest at that time, the concert was cancelled.
So, Vance said they might send the national guard to Detroit . Last time the NG was in Detroit was in ‘67 because of riots at The Monkees concert. byu/SkipSpenceIsGod inDetroit…
