The Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) has informed families and staff about a possible pause in SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits. This may happen by the end of this week if the federal government shutdown continues. The district notes that many families rely on SNAP for food at home.
DPSCD states that free breakfast, lunch, and supper (at select afterschool programs) will still be available to all students. The district is working with city and community partners to help families access food and basic needs during this time.
Families can visit the 11 DPSCD Health Hubs and Family Resource Centers in Detroit. These centers provide food pantry items and help with basic needs. They are open Monday through Friday, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Families can call the Office of Family and Community Engagement (FACE) at 313-873-7490 for more details…
