Detroit High School Students Can Earn Up to $1,000 for Perfect Attendance This Winter

The Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) will continue its ‘Perfect Attendance Pays’ program for the 2025-2026 school year. The initiative aims to improve student attendance during the winter months. High school students can earn up to $1,000 in VISA gift cards by maintaining perfect attendance over ten 5-day cycles. The program runs from January 5, 2026, to March 20, 2026.

Eligible participants are full-time students in grades 9 through 12 at DPSCD, including those in center-based and virtual schools. Students must attend every hour of each school day in a cycle. Approved field trips and in-school activities count as present. For each week of perfect attendance, students receive a $100 electronic VISA gift card. The cards are sent to students’ district email accounts. There is no raffle or lottery; all students who meet the requirements receive the reward.

The attendance cycles are set, and payment dates are about two weeks after each cycle ends. For example, students with perfect attendance from January 5 to January 9, 2026, will get their gift cards on January 23, 2026. This process repeats for ten cycles. Students can earn up to $1,000 if they have perfect attendance for the entire period…
