MELVINDALE — Controversial Police Lt. Matt Furman was bound over for trial Dec. 1 on felony charges in three separate incidents.
The first incident, which occurred during the summer of 2024, involved a traffic stop for driving around barricades. The driver had a suspended license and no vehicle insurance, and refused to provide his name. After another policeman led the man out of the vehicle, Furman allegedly began to use his Taser on the man repeatedly, as well as kicking him in the leg. Medics were called to the scene to treat the man for his injuries. Furman attacked him again while the medics were treating him, police said.
The second incident involved a woman sitting in a parked car waiting to drop her daughter off for cheer practice, at which time Furman scanned her license plate and discovered that her vehicle insurance had lapsed. When she refused to exit her vehicle, Furman allegedly used his Taser on her three times in front of her children…
