Ex–Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has been in the news over the past week. He filed a motion asking his sentencing judge to relieve him of the $823,681 the federal government says he owes Detroit taxpayers in restitution stemming from his 2013 public corruption conviction.
Federal prosecutors quickly responded by filing a motion Thursday seeking to continue garnishing his assets to cover the restitution. U.S. District Judge Nancy G. Edmunds has yet to rule on the matter.
